A Modern Touch on Five Mile Hill

Gorgeous views of Lake Michigan, a pool on the roof, and plenty of sunshine, this home is a beautiful representation of today's contemporary design. During construction, our "on deck" thermometer read as high as 117 degrees in the sun. If only we'd come to swim. Alas, there was work to be done...

The photograph above shows the "after," while the photos below show the "before." Substandard building products and craftsmanship lead to the early demise of this deck and the flat roof beneath it. Too many corners were cut. Doing so lead to a major renovation after only 7 years.

Beneath the deck boards the leaky roof lead to bigger problems.

The small brown water damage spots (Photo Above) did't look like much, but check out what we found beneath them. (Photo Below)

After reparing the damage to the structure, the lower level family room is as good as new (Photo Below).

Below are some photos of what takes place behind the scenes. The old deck was removed. The rolled out shingles were tossed away and the water damaged roof sheathing was replaced. Next came a rubber membrane (seen in black) and the deck grid system and finally the new Azek deck.
