Sometimes... a little imagination goes a long way

Amazing how a few changes can make a HUGE difference.

Bedroom before... The master bathroom is through the cased opening and through the cased doorway.

We replaced one closet with maple butcher block shelving and a desk. Then we shrunk the first opening and removed the casing to calm down the room and provide a feeling of privacy in the bedroom. Finally, the carpet was replaced, can light trims updated and a ceiling fan installed.

Removing casing around pass-thru gives the feeling that the space on the other side is a part of the same room. While the opening size was also reduced so as to provide wall space and a corner for an over-stuffed chair, the room actually felt as if it got larger.

We removed the swinging bathroom door so that the toilet could be hidden behind the wall and the homeowner wouldn't have to worry about the door swinging into it. Rather than the old toilet and vanity being the dominant visual feature in the master bathroom, the shower and new open shelf vanity now are.

Before...

After

Closet doors before...

Closet doors after. It's amazing what a traditional Craftsman style door and new trim can do to update the feel of a 1970's ranch home.
